Multiple Motorcycle Scooter thefts DC# 15 03 020769

Since April 1, 2015, Major Crimes Auto Squad has been investigating Scooter Thefts in South Division. These thefts have been occurring during the overnight hours between 1:00 am – 4:00 am at different areas of South Philadelphia. All of the Scooters stolen were parked and secured by lock and chain in front of the Scooter owner’s residence. During the thefts of these Scooters, the lock and chain are cut to steal the Scooter.

Between April 1, 2015 and May 21, 2015, seventeen (17) scooter/motorcycles have been stolen from South and Central Division. Surveillance video depicts three unknown White or Hispanic males operating a white Ford Econoline van with ladder racks on the roof and a stolen PA license plate of HDV-9933 affixed to the van at the time of the theft which belongs to a Honda. To this date six of the stolen scooter/motorcycles have been recovered in Camden, NJ. Previous investigations revealed Hispanic males from Camden used stolen vans in the theft of these scooter/motorcycles from Philadelphia, then transport the vehicles back to Camden. Surveillance video recovered depicts the theft of two motorcycles from the rear of the 17xx block of Locust Street.

From a previous investigation by Major Crimes Auto Squad, suspects drove Vans and Pick-Up trucks from New Jersey (possibly stolen) to load and transport Scooters back to Camden, NJ to sell on the streets. The rear passenger seats were removed from the Van interior to transport multiple scooters at a time.

Suspect Description: Three unknown White or Hispanic males operating a white Ford Econoline van with a stolen PA license plate of HDV-9933.
