I recently had an argument with two learners of Mandarin over the truncated third tone in Mandarin and so that led to me questioning he way I pronounced my third tone. I did some research and decided to make a video to share my findings. After a lifetime of speaking Mandarin, it was interesting to discover this about the third tone as I just assumed that everyone truncates it - well, at least the native speakers do but those learning Mandarin as a foreign language are not taught to do so and thus often confuse their second and third tones. Karen - this is for you!
