US economic reports on job layoffs and manufacturing suggest the recession may be easing. The Labor Department says the number of Americans signing up for unemployment assistance declined slightly last week, and the Commerce Department says a measure of U.S. manufacturing rose in April. Despite the improvement, the U.S. economic picture remains mixed. VOA's Mil Arcega reports.
