🎵 [SONG INFO]
"I'll Remember" is the closing track of The Kinks' 1966 album Face to Face.
While the album is famous for being one of the first true "concept" records, this specific song is a bit of an outlier in its history.
Key Facts
Even though it’s on the 1966 album, it was actually recorded in October 1965 during the sessions for The Kink Kontroversy.
It stands out for its transitionary sound—moving away from the raw garage rock of their early years into the more melancholic, observational style Ray Davies became famous for.
Personnel
It features the original lineup:
Ray Davies (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar),
Dave Davies (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals),
Pete Quaife (Bass)
and Mick Avory (Drums).
Cover Versions
Because it’s a deeper cut, it hasn't been covered as much as "Lola" or "You Really Got Me," but there are a few notable versions:
La Ruta, a Spanish power-pop/mod band, covered it for the tribute album An Animal Kink in 1996.
The Hyperium Suite included a version on their Kinks tribute collection.
It often gets overshadowed by "Days" (1968), which uses similar lyrical themes ("Days I'll remember all my life"), but "I'll Remember" is the earlier, more "primitive" take on that nostalgic feeling.
