Along with other tax havens,the Channel Island of Jersey,a British crown dependency,has recently been forced to bow to public pressure and introduce more transparent banking practices. Many tax dodgers are worried that their illicit accounts could now be discovered and that they could face hefty back payments or even jail. A lawyer on Jersey is seeking to take action against people deliberately evading taxes. In the past,obstacles have been placed in his path. The question is now whether that will change,and whether Jersey is really serious about coming clean.
