Craig Harris, a new signing to the Thema crew from New York’s old-school rave and techno underground, has been crafting his sound for the last few years, pushing to a standard worthy of a sharp ear. Objects for Observation’s “Reactive Parallel” breaks Harris’ debut EP wide open with a pulsating kickand hypnotic synth that builds tension between the various parallel layers.
Standing in place, “350°”—a techno banger—incites forbidden feelings with its sub-heavy NYC warehouse style thump. Shifting toward a headier destination through “Unknown Channel” — a steady deep kick and vocal that explores both an external-and-internal world. “S.M.O” soothes the space with its
atmospheric sounds, setting up “Polaris,” a sonic sequence that builds upon bleeps and sirens that will encourage the driven. Even if Harris is fresh to release, you can hear the maturity in the music contained in his pure pound of techno with results that are made to make the dance floor fly with ease.
