Thanks to a viewer who told us about this spot we went to McGulphin Point Lighthouse in Mackinaw Michigan. This lighthouse is just a few miles outside of the city itself but is well worth the trip.

This lighthouse is being restored to working conditions and is being set up to look like it did when it was still in operation.

The entrance is by donation which is nice compared to most of the higher priced attractions these days.

Melanie and I went up to the top of the lighthouse for the spectacular views of the Mackinaw Bridge and the city itself a few miles away.

We also went down to the beach where the McGulphin Point rock is supposed to be. This is reported to have been discovered before Plymouth Rock and is supposed to be much larger as well.

People in the area are trying to increase knowledge of this rock and its history.

Melanie and I could not actually find the rock though. It measures 33 feet across but it must be under water at this time because the water levels are very high.

This rock was used to aid sailors in finding the depth of the lake.
