Half way through the 5 months we always get absurdly excited, and this year is no exception. Today Meghan Flanagan, DVM from Turner vet came to ultrasound the goats, so now we are REALLY excited. It turns out 16 are bred. That means we will have about 45 kids this spring. We can't say enough nice things about Dr. Flanagan and Turner vet, so if you are tired of second guessing whether your goat is bred and when they might be due, consider an ultrasound. It only takes a minute or two per goat! Fern was the first bred and is now at 75 Days. A great deal of growth will occur during the next stage, but by this point each kid already weighs about 4 ounces and is 2 1/2 inches long. The kid's first hairs have sprouted around its eyes and mouth. It has little legs! (I think they look a little like ET on they ultrasound.) Fun to dream about all those babies playing in the field when there are 2 foot drifts outside!
