HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- An investigation is being conducted into a local teacher that has families on alert.   

Parents of students at New Miami High School received a letter telling them  a teacher has been placed on leave. Detectives with the Butler County Sheriff's office were in the early stages of their investigation Thursday. They will be looking at allegations that led to the teacher being placed on paid leave.

School officials said the allegations came to light earlier in the week. The district moved swiftly and last night placed the male social studies teacher, who also served as an assistant football coach, on paid administrative leave. School policy said such action would come in the wake of allegations of unprofessional conduct. 

The New Miami School superintendent said the allegations could involve a student. Late Thursday the district sent home a letter with students making their parents aware of the action taken by the school board. 

Neither the letter nor school officials said what the allegations involved.
