2-Rescuer CPR progression BVM use with the secondary rescuer having a 5 second delay variation This is the third variation in the 2-Rescuer CPR progress drills. (Aquatics International, "CPR: Synchronized Teamwork", May 2013) Guidelines: Lifeguards are in 2-person teams, with a primary rescuer, and a secondary rescuer. A manikin will be used for the victim. Rescuers will be wearing a fanny pack equipped with gloves and a pocket mask. Rescuers will also bring in a BVM that will need to be assembled. Victim is considered a dry victim with no spinal injury. Rescuers will get to the victim and do the following skills: Glove up Activate EMS Perform a Primary Assessment CPR Assemble BVM, and incorporate into the drill The secondary rescuer will have a 5 second delay before entering the drill. A trainer will be used to state that the victim is not responsive, and there is no severe bleeding, the victim has no pulse but is not breathing. As the trainer, you can still ensure that your rescuers are opening the airway properly, holding the mask properly, and good posture and body position over the victim. Rescuers must be counting out loud when checking for breathing and during CPR compressions. Both rescuers must have gloves on by the end of the drill, and BVM is assembled and being used properly. BVM is a piece of equipment that needs to used by 2 rescuers. Drill doesn't end until rescuers provide 2 breaths with the BVM during the CPR cycle (30 compressions, 2 BVM breaths) This is an all pass drill, meaning all rescuers must complete the drill for the lifeguard team to receive a pass. This drill must be completed in 45 seconds. A 6-12 lifeguard team is preferred. Depending on size of staff, modify to accommodate needs.
