In Penang, 24 foreign women working as guest relations officers, GROs were detained by the state Immigration Department during raids at two entertainment centres in George Town, last night. It was reported that the department had been monitoring both premises, located at Jalan Kedah and Jalan Burma, since last week before the 9pm operation. 21 Vietnamese and three Chinese national women, aged between 20 and 40, were rounded up and further inspections revealed that they misused their social visit passes and have been working at the entertainment centres in the past few months. Those detained were then taken to the department’s office in Seberang Jaya to be documented before they were sent to the Juru Immigration Detention Depot for further action.
