Teaching kids about drugs, addiction and your sobriety isn't always an easy conversation. In this video, you will learn about kids and drugs as well as how to talk to them when you're in early sobriety.

Educating kids about addiction and educating kids about drugs should be a normal part of parenting. How to talk to kids about drugs shouldn't be any more awkward than talking to them about anything else in life. Kids and drugs are going to find each other no matter what you do, so you might as well be proactive. 

The point is to have an open dialogue with your child about the reality of having a drug problem when you're in early sobriety. One of the reasons why dare doesn't work is because we're not teaching kids about addiction. 

You child may already know about the opioid epidemic, and it might have happened when they saw the 60 Minutes Opioid Crisis episode. The 60 Minutes Opioid Addiction episode was seen by millions of families, so it's normal to have kids asking questions about drugs. 

Allowing your child to know about your sobriety is a good deterrent for them when it comes to the drugs kids are doing. Drugs and kids mix at a young age, which is why there are places like rehab for teens and even rehab for adolescents. Adolescents in rehab is a reality we're facing, so don't be afraid to talk to your kids about addiction.
