Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, is a stunning red brick castle.  Set on an island in a lake and dating back to the 14th century, the castle (rebuilt - what else) houses interesting museums. Our favorite was the  unusual collection of tobacco pipes.
