Improvised Selfie Stick with Photography Stuff

How can I make a reasonable selfie stick for my camcorder with the photography bits I already have? Here's what I decided to do and a quick test to see whether it could work in practice.

Note: Sorry about the audio on the first section of video. I had a problem with the lav mics and they were generating a load of hiss!
