Greyston Bakery is a local food manufacturer who uses an open-hiring model. This model has helped Greyston stand out to large corporations, such as Ben and Jerry’s, who are interested in supporting social enterprises —as well as offers second-chances to individuals who otherwise have a hard time finding stable employment. Job seekers put their name on a waitlist and once a job is available, they will be employed, no questions asked. This policy has allowed many members of the Yonkers-community where the bakery is located to restart their lives in ways they never thought were possible. With Mike Brady, CEO of Greyston Bakery, and Dion Drew, Head Baker of Greyston Bakery, at the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise’s 2015 Social Enterprise Conference, September 25, 2015.
