E Cape commemorates the Bhisho Massacre

The Eastern Cape government held a commemoration and cleansing ceremony for the Bhisho Massacre in the town. In 1992 Twenty eight marchers and one soldier died when armed forces of the then Ciskei government opened fire on a mass march to the Bhisho stadium calling for the then bantustan leader of the Ciskei, Oupa Gqozo to step down. Just last month there were talks again between the Eastern Cape government and families of the survivors about compensation.
