It’s one of those songs that are practically all Guitar Beginner books. I also think it’s actually the first real challenge for a guitar starter, because it’s likely the first song he/she will learn that involves the ominous F-Chord. Good thing I just tortured you for a few weeks practicing the F-Guitar Chord, right? Well, as I told you, you can’t do without it. It is just too important of a chord. But obviously the House of the Rising Song guitar chords include more than just the F-chord. You also need the following ones: A-Minor, C-Major, D-Major, and E7. Those should not pose too big of a challenge to you at this point. In a first step, we will practice an easy guitar version of House of the Rising Sun. We will start with simple donwstrokes. Later on we will incorporate slightly more sophisticated strumming patterns, including combinations of up and downstrokes as well as fingerpicking. The biggest challenge when playing this song is probably the chord change from a D-Major to the F-Major into an A-Minor. It is super important that you start out very slowly. I strongly recommend that you practice just this chord sequence for a little while (something like 10 minutes every day). When you feel somewhat comfortable, incorporate the other chords. Nice job so far, you just overcame a huge hurdle. And you learned a cool song that features the F-Chord. Congratulations.
