2010 UCI Road World Championships: Fabian Cancellara goes down in cycling's history The Australians nicknamed him "The King of the Time": and he, Fabian Cancellara, offered them yet another demonstration of his class. In Geelong, the Swiss has become the first rider in history to win the time trial title four times: an amazing feat to which can be added his Olympic victory in Beijing and above all, the Tour of Flanders -- Paris-Roubaix double at the beginning of the season. Cancellara, who announced just a few days ago his intention to race in Australia, easily dominated the event, covering the 45,6km course in an average of 47,048km/h, leaving all his rivals more than a minute behind. And yet there were numerous and well qualified contenders for the victory: from the German Toni Martin, who managed to take bronze despite a puncture at the beginning of his effort, to the young Australian Richie Porte, fourth at the finish after being carried along by the enthusiastic support of his public, without overlooking Britain's David Millar, who had the best time at the first intermediary point before finishing in second place. Fabian Cancellara, untouchable, once again lay down the law: that of an exceptional cyclist, who definitely deserves a top place in cycling's history. We wait to see him again -- just as in Mendrisio one year ago, extremely motivated but maybe more relaxed -- among the main favourites for the road race on Sunday.
