BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - A man admitted to murdering two women in a Butler County courtroom as his trial was set to begin Monday. James Geran pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and murder charges.

Geran killed Megan Motter on June 12. Investigators had described her as a "business associate". She was found shot in the head in Madison Township.

As investigators closed in on Geran, he held three people hostage during a standoff in a Trenton apartment building on the next day. He killed one of those hostages, Sharon McCleary. McCleary was the mother of Geran's girlfriend, who was also held hostage. A third woman escaped.

The standoff ended when Geran shot himself.

In exchange for the guilty pleas, felonious assault and gun charges against Geran were dropped.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 17.
