Indiana woman arrested for lying about cancer to raise money

SWITZERLAND COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) - A Patriot, Indiana woman was arrested after Indiana State Police investigators said she claimed she had terminal cancer to scam people out of money. 

Investigator said Santana Banta was not ill. Investigators said a tip led them to Banta. A person told them that Banta made a number of claims on social media that she had terminal cancer. She allegedly told them she was being treated in Louisville and started a GoFundMe account to pay for her bills.

Detectives said they determined she did not have terminal cancer was was using the more than $3,000 on other things. 

Indiana State Police arrested her Friday, Sept. 30 on charges of felony theft and deception.
