ABOUT THE MOTION: This House Has No Confidence in Her Majesty's Government 
Taking place just as the Brexit legislation will be inching its way through Parliament, the traditional opening debate of the year at the Union is more timely than ever. The Government’s slim working majority will be put under pressure, and party loyalties will be put to the test. Is another general election in the offing? Or is Theresa May strong and stable after all?

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: 
PROPOSITION
Sir Ed Davey Mp
Sir Ed was the Energy Secretary in the Coalition government from 2012-15 and the Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston from 1997-2015. After a short hiatus he regained his seat in the General Election last year. 

Chris Bryant Mp
Chris Bryant is a prominent Labour Party MP who served in Ed Miliband’s Shadow Cabinet and who was Gordon Brown’s last Minister for Europe. He has represented the Rhondda since 2001. He was formerly a vicar.

Peter Bone Mp
Peter Bone is a prominent campaigner for Brexit and one of the backbench Conservative MPs behind the pressure group “Leave means Leave”. He has represented Wellingborough since 2005, and has become known for his distinctive style of questioning at Prime Minister’s Questions.

Sir Desmond Swayne Mp
Sir Desmond has represented New Forest West since 1997. He was David Cameron’s Parliamentary Private Secretary and then served as Minister of State at the Department for International Development.

Conor Burns Mp 
Conor Burns was Boris Johnson’s Parliamentary Private Secretary, and resigned in solidarity with him over the controversial Chequers Deal. He has represented Bournemouth West since 2010.
