Vlog n°10. I felt the necessity to tell you the reason behind my choice for the title "Authentic Sound". As you can imagine, it has nothing to do with me, or my way of playing. On the contrary. In short: authentic sound is literally to be understood as the sound of the clavichord (in the first place) and the sound of historic instruments (in a larger sense).

My point: playing on instruments that were, of could have been available to the composers you perform today, is one of the keystones of the so-called "authentic performance practice". Today, we often hear people say that this movement had had his highpoint, that much, if not everything has been said what need to be said, and that we pretty much know everything we need or want to know. It might even be time of thinking on something else... Of course, I generalize very much, but I have the contrary feeling. So much need to be discovered, and may be we should take the courage to step beyond the incredible work what this "first generation" has done from the '60ies on, till today?

You could see the clavichord as an example of this. The instrument was by far the 1st keyboard instrument of the18th century. And yet today, if you compare the historic importance of this instrument, to the number of recordings that are made today on the clavichord, it just is disproportional. Only that aspect must make us wondering, if we really have come as far as we (in general) think we are?
