When a person is seeking enlightenment, motivations can change as they begin to dis-identify with the ideas that they've identified with in the past. So, because most people's motivation to do positive things, runs directly through the ego in a desire to be a good person, there may be a tendency to lose sight of doing positive things if they are seeking to transcend the ego.
