One shows 3 children building a paper cup phone with string. The other follows a group of high school students as they tour Bell Laboratories - the Eero Saarinen building in Holmdel - and learn about the development of various means of transmission. In both stories, we see the process of experimentation as it bears on researchers attempting to come up with solutions in helping people communicate with one another. The building mentioned above was built for Bell Laboratories between 1959 and 1962. It was one of Saarinen's final projects - along with the CBS Black Rock building in NYC and the TWA terminal at JFK Airport. It was a research facility, with a water tower shaped like a transistor.
