Yellowstone National Park is in the north-west of the United States,
in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Yellowstone was proclaimed a National Park in 1872, making it the oldest national park in the United States. There are around a thousand different plants in Yellowstone.
Clean soil, clear water and pure air are essential conditions for a healthy environment. An environment in which man, plants and animals can live in peace. Yellowstone offers these conditions to an extent.
There are some 30,000 elk or wapiti in Yellowstone. 'Magnificent', according to some; 'too many', others say.
It is true that the elk eat a lot. This can be seen in particular at the river banks, where young willows have all but disappeared.
