New York Knicks News: The Knicks were coming off a victory where they played well on both ends of the floor, while the Washington Wizards have been staggering through the early part of the season.

This seemed like a game where, if they played well, the Knicks could take advantage and pick up another victory.

They did not play well enough.

The Knicks made it close after halftime but collapsed late on the way to a 108-95 loss to Washington Sunday at Capital One Arena.

The Knicks, who play the Chicago Bulls Monday night at the Garden for the second half of the back-to-back, shot 41.9 percent from the field and just 5-of-27 (18.5 percent) from the perimeter.

Their offense stalled at times late in the game and their defense broke down. The Knicks also finished with 18 turnovers.

"I thought defensively they did an overall good job," David Fizdale said. "They definitely affected us because we were turning the ball over. Very careless with the ball tonight and they deserve a lot of credit for that."

John Wall scored 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half while Bradley Beal finished with 22 to help lead the Wizards, who had dropped seven of their first eight games.

Enes Kanter led the Knicks with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Trey Burke had 13 points and Damyean Dotson had 11.

The Wizards opened up a 13-point lead in the third quarter, but the Knicks came back with the help of some big plays from Allonzo Trier.

The rookie forced Wall to dribble out of bounds at one point right in front of the Knicks bench, firing up Fizdale, who pumped his fist emphatically.

"He had like two or three really good stops there, to slide his feet and stay in front of John Wall and be able to contain him, that鈥檚 a tough task and he did it a couple of times," Fizdale said.

In the closing seconds of the third, Trier went work in isolation, driving to the basket for a layup to pull the Knicks to within three.

Burke tied the game at 82 in the fourth with a driving layup.

But Washington again pulled away, starting with a key sequence with just less than six minutes remaining.
