Berlin to Dortmund First Class In High Speed ICE Train 250 KM per hr  Taking a train ride in Germany is a pleasure.  Departing from the Hauptbahnhof, the main train station in Berlin, I was inside a top 5 railway station in Europe for size and passangers.
Here in Berlin the Hauptbahnhof serves as a Tram, Bus, Subway, Regional Rail and Rail Station serving over 350,000 people a day and over 1800 trains.
The station has 16 tracks on numerous levels and you can go anywhere in Europe from here.
The ICE high speed train I was on was at least 1500 feet long and hit a top speed of 250 kms per hr.
At top speed there is very little noise and no vibrations.  Your tea or coffee just sits in the cup and does not move.
You can tell tourists from locals.  Tourists make videos and then post them on youtube, while locals read the paper or play on their iphones not even bothering to out the windows.  You get WIFI as part of your first class fare.

When you get to Dortmund you find yourself right in the downtown core, and your on your way.

Germany has sunk a ton of money into their train system, and it shows.  On time performance is the norm, clean fast and safe trains are expected by all.

You download the DB app, search for your departure and destination, find various fares from first to second class look for discounted fares, book you ride and show the conductor your email confirmation from your iphone on board the train and your good.  By the way the counter staff at DB and the onboard conductors all speak English.  

Welcome to Germany folks, it should be like this in North America too, but.......
