Lead investigator testifies in Hamilton arson, murder trial

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) - The lead investigator of a possible arson that led to the death of a firefighter took the stand on Monday.

The prosecution is in the process of calling its final witnesses. On Monday, detectives outlined to jurors their investigation into the fire that killed Firefighter Patrick Wolterman.

Prosecutors claim Lester Parker had his nephew, Billy Tucker, burn down his Hamilton home to collect insurance money. The supposed motivation? The prosecution states that Parker wanted money and Tucker wanted pills, so a deal was made between them.

The fire in December of 2015 claimed the life of Hamilton Firefighter Patrick Wolterman. Investigators say he and other firefighters rushed into the home thinking there were people inside the home. 

Hamilton Police detectives took the stand Monday to talk about their investigation, saying they were led to Tucker, who denied any involvement in setting the fire.

Earlier, there was testimony that Tucker got a ride to Hamilton and a witness says he ran back to a car out of breath and carrying a gas can. His attorney claims he got a ride to Hamilton but to another address.

As has been the case during the course of the trial, the courtroom was packed on Monday with members of Patrick Wolterman's family, including his widow, and members of the Hamilton Fire Department.
