Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak wanted Barisan Nasional to win the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat and proved wrong the critics who regard it as a difficult seat for the BN to recapture. Addressing the ‘Hebatkan Negaraku’ programme at the convention centre, Datuk Seri Najib urged the people of Sungai Siput to give BN the mandate to enable it to bring about a transformation in the constituency that has a mixed group of people including orang asli. He also announced that the BN government would upgrade Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bawong into the first fully residential orang asli school in Malaysia. He also said that the government would build a fully residential Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama in Lintang, a Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil in Salak, and more houses for the orang asli and 500 units of houses under the people’s housing project in Sungai Siput. (Soundbite of Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak/Prime Minister Subtitle: I urge the BN to recapture Sungai Siput. We lost 1-2 previously but I want us to win, not 2-1 but 3-0.)
