Baladi Improvisation Baladi is a solo dance. The improvisation between dancer and musician is of fundamental importance to this style. The tradtional form of Baladi is called Ashra Baladi from the Arabic word Ashra meaning ten. This is because the Ashra Baladi originally comprised of 10 parts. These days it is not usually in 10 parts, but however there is still a clear structure to the music that musicians and dancers alike can follow, but this does not make the Baladi a choreographed piece. How long, how short, how sweet, how dramatic or upbeat a piece of Baladi music is, depends on the mood and communication between the musicians and the dancer. The musicians and dancer inspire and encourage each other on. The audience also have an influence on their performance.
