Here on the windswept, sunny plains of Cauchari, Argentina, heavy machinery is arriving from around the world to construct a new solar plant. The massive project, which will change the face of energy in this part of the country, is backed by technology and financing from China. This new solar park is bringing a lot of changes to the area as well as changes to the lives of the workers. The park will open in 2019 under the management of the Chinese company Shanghai Electric Power Construction. The project will bring many benefits to nearby, underserved populations. This park will have the capacity to generate more than 750 thousand megawatt-hours in its first year of operations. The Cauchari plant is part of the natural extension of the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to connect the countries of the world through infrastructure and ultimately through trade and to create new opportunities and better conditions for all.
