Large members of the Pennsylvania elk herd roaming around on Rock Hill, southern Elk County, just a few miles from Medix Run, Benezette, and Winslow hill. I was lucky enough to have my camera with me, but didn't have my tripod. I recorded them off hand at times with 57 power mega zoom, so camera shake was unavoidable at times. The elk didn't seem to mind too much about being filmed. If they did, they didn't say anything.

Elk are also known as Wapiti, a name given to them by the Shawnee indians. According to Merriam-Webster, it is pronounced whoppitee. Apparently the Shawnee call it like they see it, because wapiti literally means "white rump". Elk are the largest species of deer in the world, with bulls commonly weighing over 1000 pounds. The bulls are in velvet this time of year as you can see in the video.
