Just after midnight Monday night Joseph Erl Jackson, 45 of Houston was southbound at a high rate of speed on FM1486. As he entered a curve to the left he ran off the right side of the road. Attempting to get back on the road he over corrected coming back across FM 1486 and striking several steel barriers. Those barriers were installed years ago at Jorge's Grocery just for that reason. To stop a vehicle. However, with the high rate of speed the Intrepid ripped the posts out of the ground as it spun and slammed into the building. The vehicle came to rest on the island which held the fuel pumps years ago. Jackson was critically injured and as heavy storms moved into the area both PHI Air Medical or Life Flight were able to fly into the area. MCHD started to transport Jackson to Hermann Hospital in Houston but diverted to Conroe Regional due to his condition.

There were two other occupants in the vehicle who sustained minor injuries. The trio had called a fried just after the crash happened. That friend picked the trio up and as Montgomery County deputies approached the scene the vehicle and occupants fled. The deputies were able to stop them a short distance down the road and return them to the scene.

According to DPS alcohol is a contributing factor as many beer cans littered the inside of the vehicle.

The occupants were identified and detained but later released.

The store suffered major damage to the meat market area where the vehicle pushed the wall in.

A sign on the front door wished everyone a Merry Christmas and stated they were closing at 6 pm Christmas Eve. At 2 am the owners and employees were cutting plywood trying to secure the building just as the intense rain and hail moved in.
