The music of Ireland's Sliabh (Schleeve) Luachra region, a mountainous area that straddles the counties of Cork, Kerry and Limerick, is justly noted for its vibrant dance music where the polka and slide are king. Comprised of Limerich-born accordionist Donal Murphy, a founding member of Four Men & A Dog, County Cork's master fiddler, Matt Cranitch and County Kerry guitar ace and vocalist Tommy O'Sullivan, this trio brings together Sliabh Luachra's instantly identifiable dance sound with songs and tunes that reflect the Irish contribution to the music of the American south. "From the Heart" is from their first album recorded in 1995, performed here with guest vocalist (and Tommy's wife), Saundra O'Sullivan. "Come from the Heart" is a country music song written by Richard Leigh and Susanna Clark and published in 1987. It is most known through the 1989 single by Kathy Mattea, released in conjunction with her album Willow in the Wind, though the song was first recorded and released on the 1987 Don Williams album Traces and also released in 1988 by Clark's husband on his album Old Friends. The Burren Backroom Series is hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH Radio. Subscribe!
