Although not exactly a newcomer (having produced the mighty Presence Of Another Man alongside Muder on his own Wazi Wazi music as well as several remixes and appearances on Baalsaal and Moodmusic) it's fair to say he's been flying under the radar and we think it's about time that all changed. On Penner's debut solo release for Freerange we see the German showing his love for the two cities he spends his life torn between. Kicking of with his second home Munich, we are treated to a deep and sensual mid-paced house track full of slow builds and an understated feel. 808 kicks resonate the lower end while high strings and slow moving bassline create the sense of tension and drama flawlessly. Peaktime perfection for slow house heads everywhere! Next up we move to Nils' adoptive home town of Berlin where an even more mellow and sedate mood prevails with distant Rhodes chords supported by a lovely loose bassline and cowbell-punctuated beats. Once again, Nils shows off his ability to produce a track which sounds both warm and encapsulating but not at the expense of raw energy. Play late, loud and proud! Finally we welcome young Chicagoan Savile to the occasion for his brilliant interpretation of Munich. Definitely one to watch if you're into off-kilter house with a deep touch and an element of surprise, his breaks-infused productions can be found on labels as diverse as Ninjatune and A Trak's Fools Gold . For his No Lies Ad Infinitum Remix he opts for a darker, lo-slung approach with the echoing vocal line repeating throughout whilst the bass line rumbles on. Once again, Savile keeps a tight reign on the arrangement, never overdoing it with breakdowns or bass drops, preferring to build a subtle tension and relying on the fat production to do the talking For Press Enquiries please contact Lou Franklin -- [email protected]
