Fire Claims Life of Upstate Man

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -- A Spartanburg County man died after a home burned to the ground Tuesday morning. Family members tell News 13 the Reidville fire claimed the life of a 64-year-old man. His nephew, whom we spoke to, said the man was living with a female relative in the house on Reidville Sharon Road. She survived the fire. Only hours from the ordeal, family and neighbors were still in shock. "You don't expect something like that in your neighborhood," neighbor, Ann Engroos, said. Just a few yards away from Engroos, her two neighbors were fighting for their lives. Family members and fire officials tell News 13 the man was trapped, while the woman got away. "The one that did [get away] was in a front bedroom and was able to break out a window and crawl out onto the porch and go to the relative's, which is next door.
