Keynote Address by the Hon'ble Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba, Canada during the session 'Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change and Mitigating Emissions of Greenhouse Gases and Associated Co-Benefits' at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2013.

Speking at the Summit, the Hon'ble Mr Selinger said that sub-national governments will play a leading role in dealing with climate change as they are more connected to communities at the grassroots and are more aware of local problems. He said Manitoba has given special attention to environment education in its curriculum, which has made its young people more aware and conscientious. He said Manitoba has worked hard to take into account the concerns of aboriginal communities while implementing any development project.

A planet of 7 billion people, a number that is growing every minute, is likely to face increased conflicts over scarce resources. So unless we begin to use our resources efficiently, we are likely to reach tipping points that will not only harm our own well-being, but also that of our future generations. The decisions we make today will define our tomorrow.

It is in this context that DSDS 2013 deliberated upon 'The Global Challenge of Resource Efficient Growth and Development'. For more information, visit http://dsds.teriin.org.
