Quick Update: I did what I said in the video and seperated the inputs of the nands so you get more control, Setting the registers value and shifting both ways at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-z75w9BoKQ

Had to try and build a new design that is smaller than bannana's (iammrhellohowareyou on youtube) recent one he build so this is what I came up with. Mine uses Piston D latches and some nand logic to change when to shift up and down. This version in the video doesn't have a way to disable shifting to allow the register to be set instead of shifted in. But it can be accomplished by changing the torch ladder to a system that lets each side be powered independently. And if you power both sides you can shift in by powering the wire on the back on top of red. This design is quite fast and can work on either a 1 tick pulse or edge triggered as long as the edges are far enough apart.
