http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Shanti Stupa was built by both Japanese Buddhists and Ladakh Buddhists in 1991 and holds the relics of Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. The Stupa was built to promote world peace, prosperity and commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism. It is a major tourist attraction, primarily due to its location with wonderful views of Leh, the surrounding areas and mountains. Tourists are usually driven up to Shanti Stupa but it is also easily walkable from Changspa and/or the Deskit Villa. For a 20 Rupee Entrance Fee, around .40 cents U.S., visit even though as far as stupas go, it isn't ancient or as photogenic as others. Please don't forget to Subscribe Share and Like. Thanks.
