Day 26 in the Atlantic, Day 44 in the Eastern Pacific
Hurricane Cosme, as of the upload time, has attained sustained winds of 80mph and a central pressure of 985mb, and may continue to strengthen to 85mph or 90mph, a high-end Category 1 storm. Cosme is unlikely to reach Category 2 strength due to unfavourable conditions ahead. Cold sea surface temperatures will drive down the storm's intensity over the next few days, until its eventual dissipation or transition to a post-tropical storm without threatening any land areas.
Two new invests have formed in the Western Pacific, though none really show malice at the moment.
Invest 97W is currently located near Micronesia, between Chuuk and Pohnpei, and is a rather small flare-up of activity at the moment. This system is not likely to develop
Invest 98W is currently located further east, near the International Date Line, and is also not likely to develop at the moment.
