(23 Oct 2018) Seven people have been seriously hurt and a further 13 injured in an accident on an escalator in the Italian capital's metro system on Tuesday, Rome's firefighters chief said. A number of Russian football fans who were in the city for the Champion's League game between CSKA Moscow and Roma were among the injured. The accident happened at the Piazza Repubblica metro stop near the main Termini train station. Giampietro Boscaino, Rome provincial fire chief, said people had been found "piled up at the bottom of the escalator" which had become "twisted". A video on Sky TG24 shows the escalator accelerating suddenly and those riding down it collapsing onto one another.
