I wanted to post a video about the upcoming EPIK Orientation Week in Seoul, Korea.

I am specifically talking about the April 21st - 26th orientation week. This is the one that I will be attending.
I will also be recording video throughout that time to give an insider perspective on what that is all about, hopefully with additional comments in my video(s) by other Native English Teachers! =)
I was hired directly by SMOE, but EPIK still handles all the training and orientation that NETs will have to go through once in Korea. So this video should pertain to both SMOE and EPIK/GEPIK hired teachers.
I will be one of 4 teachers representing the Seoul area. The remaining 158 teachers will be from the rest of the country. Since the location of this EPIK Orientation is in Seoul, I feel that I am one of the ambassadors of Seoul, and will most likely be teaching people how to navigate the subway system and taking groups of people out and about in the city after orientation classes are finished for the day.

The April 21st - 26th EPIK Orientation Week will be held at The National Institute of International Education, near Hyehwa Station (Line 4) Exit #2. It is very close to Marronnier Park.

EPIK will provide all necessary documents and URL links to complete the training.

Mandatory Training Requirements:
--Online Pre-Orientation (17 hours): EPIK teachers should complete the course before arrival to Korea & present the certificate during the On-Site orientation when asked.

--On-Site Orientation (30 hours): Upon completion of all lectures during the orientation, EPIK teachers will receive a certificate of completion of 30 training hours.

--Online In-Service Training (15 hours): After the on-site orientation, EPIK teachers will take the online In-Service training according to their school setting (elementary or middle/high school) and must be completed by ____________. (In my situation, my Orientation ends April 26th and I'm required to finish these 15 hours by August 2nd, 2013.)

Here is the exact print from my EPIK Orientation Information papers I received from EPIK/SMOE:

Purpose of the Training:
-- To enhance the understanding of teaching English as a foreign language in Korea, including various teaching methodologies as well as Korea culture and history.
--To enhance understanding of the teaching environment in Korean public schools and life in Korea which will help facilitate adaptation to life in Korea and in the Korean school system.
--To provide participants an opportunity to share their ideas and insights about teaching English and living in Korea.

I hope that some of this information may be helpful to potential English teachers in the future who are trying to work through EPIK or SMOE.
