DigInfo - http://movie.diginfo.tv NEC Launches Power-saving Server for Data Centers NEC unveiled an eco-friendly server for large enterprise and government data centers. The ECO CENTER can house 64 servers, each of which is loaded with two quad-core Intel Xeon processors, which translates into a total of 512 CPU cores, in a 2-meter-tall cabinet which weighs 540 kilograms when fully loaded, 58% lighter than conventional servers. Combined with power-saving chip sets and memories, the low-voltage Intel processor helps achieve a 55% reduction in power consumption in standby mode and 28% in run mode. Maximally configured, the ECO CENTER server is available from 39.9 million yen. Shipment in Japan is slated for late June. NEC plans to market the product in North America, Europe and Asia during the first half of 2008.
