Today Rachel and I take you out to the henhouse to see our latest experiment. A neighbor brought us a half-dozen fertilized turkey eggs and we gave them to our best setting hen to incubate. Turkey eggs take 28 days to hatch, whereas chicken eggs take 21. One hen was sitting on a single egg, and a second hen was doing the same, so we took the chicken egg from our proven mother hen and gave it to the unproven one, then replaced that egg beneath her with six turkey eggs. I really hope they hatch - this will be fun! Chickens sitting on turkey eggs... what will they think of next? Hopefully we'll end up with both baby turkeys and chicks.
