Summer has arrived in Ely, even though the calendar doesn't show it. Temperatures have been in the upper 80's, which is not characteristic of Ely, Minnesota in May. Wolves can deal with heat by being inactive during the day, switching to nocturnal behavioral patterns. Since the Center is open to the public daily from 10 am to 5 pm, the Wolf Care staff use enclosure enrichment activities that stimulate the wolves activities, but also encourage them to stay cool. The most common enrichment is meat filled ice cubes in the pond.
