An adult lynx weighs up ot 40 kilos. Here, too, the female is a little smaller. The lynx lives a secluded life in the large forest areas and avoids contact with people. It prefers to live in almost impenetrable rocky areas, hiding in caves. By day it usually rests or cleans its fur.
At dusk and at night the lynx hunts rabbits, hares and even roe deer.
After a gestation period of 10 weeks the female has 2 to 4 cubs, which she nurses for some 3 months. The cubs stay with their mother until deep in winter. After that they have to take care of themselves.
Another inhabitant of these parts is the wolf, which lives in packs. These have a strong social organisation and a distinct hierarchy.
This is determined by threat behaviour and impressing the other wolves. There is only one leading wolf - the alpha male.
Usually two wolves will typically fight for leadership.
But they rarely wound each other in this battle for power.
Wolves hardly have natural enemies, and yet the number of wolves does not grow in an unrestricted manner. In each pack the only mating is between the highest ranked male and highest ranked female.
The wolves' mating season is from January to February.
After a gestation period of 60 days, the female has 4 to 6 cubs.
And the whole pack helps raise them.
