Took a day off and went to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour on opening day! It was a great trip. If you haven't been to the California Science Center yet, now is the time to go. 

The Shuttle is in its temporary home and will be on display in the hanger for about 3-4 years while they construct its permanent home. The timed entry keeps the crowds down while you are in the exhibit area. You can actually take as long as you want in the 2nd floor exhibit area and when you are ready you can go down to see the Shuttle. Having the timed entry is very nice and makes it a more relaxing experience. 

 The California Science Center is located at 700 State Drive  Los Angeles, CA 90037 (213) 744-7400. You can also get there by rail (that is how I went). From LA Union Station, take the Metro Red Line to: 7th Street Metro Station and get off. Get on the light blue Expo Line and take that to: Expo Park USC Station. The Science Center is literally right across the street. To ride the Red Line and Expo Line you will need to buy a TAP card and load that with money ($6.00 for round trip back to Union Station). The Tap card is $1.00 and everyone traveling needs their own card, each adult can take a child under five for free. It was much better than driving. 

If you drive parking is $10.00. but if there is a USC game parking goes up to $30.00. The Science Center website will tell you when there is a USC game. 

I didn't cover the 2nd floor exhibit because there was just too much footage to add in. But they have the oven and some spare (old) tires that you can see and touch. There is also  two movies to watch before going down to see the Shuttle, one is of the launch and the second is a video of the Shuttle moving through the streets of LA, both were really great to watch.

The Science Center has some great Lunar Capsules on display plus lots of fun things for kids of all ages to do. It can be an all day visit. There is a McDonalds and a Taco Bell inside the Center.
