WEBSITE: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/ YouTube Video Index -- A list of all of my videos: http://poolmandave.blogspot.com/2014/03/swimming-pool-tips-reviews-how-to-video.html Many homeowners are unaware are just were not told that their Home Warranty Policy purchased by the Seller through Escrow will cover their Pool & Spa equipment during the first year. I also cover Manufacture Warranties at the end of the video. Any issues that you have during the first year can be reported to the Home Warranty Company and generally you will either get new or rebuilt equipment installed or the part fixed for a very small fee ($55 to $65). I have had good success over the years with Home Warranty Companies. Here are some recent examples: 2 new motors installed $400+ each 1 heater repaired $200 in parts and labor 1 filter replaced $900 value 1 filter repaired $230 in parts and labor Various plumbing issues including leaks and clogs. Here are some tips when you call. Keep your statements very general. Say something like this, "My pool pump will not turn on" or "The heater is not turning on." Don't try to fix anything yourself first. Don't even take the heater front cover off. Do nothing. Just call the Home Warranty Company. If you have a pool service have them give you a list of things that are not working. I recently had a customer call because the heater and air blower were not turning on. His motor was also making a lot of noise and was the primary reason I had him call. Turns out the heater and air blower just had a relay problem, but the motor was deemed to be bad and replaced. Note: If you are in escrow make sure that the seller has purchased a policy covering your pool & spa equipment. If you already have closed escrow and the pool and spa equipment was not covered you may be able to add it for a small fee - it may be worth it. After the first year I don't think it is worth renewing since the cost of the policy will outweigh and benefits. Generally the seller will pay anywhere from $600-$800 for the initial one year policy. Bottom line, these Home Warranty Policies do work on specific occasions. They are pretty cut and dry though with little wiggle room. Basically like I stated in the video it is as simple as -- the pump was working when I bought the house and a 3 months later it is not turning on. Anything that they deem pre-existing like a leak from the pool water level being too low causing the motor to burn out, well you may be out of luck. If your motor catches on fire it is covered for sure ;) The second thing I covered in this video was the Manufacturer Warranty on new equipment. This is also an area that many homeowners fail to utilize. I am constantly pointing out to the customers that there equipment may still be under warranty. But the length of the warranty varies with each product and with each manufacturer. So be sure to register your product and keep a close eye on it during the first year. If you have any trouble at all call the Manufacturer and they will send their authorized repair technician out within 48 hours. Warranty Examples: Pentair offers a 3 year Warranty if you buy 3 or more Pentair products at once. Hayward offers a 3 year warranty on their AquaLogic Panels and Aquarite Cells Jandy offers a 2 year warranty on their AquaLink systems and a 5 year warranty on their Aquapure cells Warranty varies some products are covered for one year, other two to five years. Check with the manufacturer when purchasing to be sure.
