CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) -- Don't be surprised if someone approaches you, and asks you to get behind marijuana. The push has just begun to let Ohio residents vote on a plan that would legalize marijuana and set up grow operations in Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties.Supporters have been collecting signatures all day down on Court Street and at the library.Essentially the petition calls for amending the Ohio state constitution to legalize marijuana.ResponsibleOhio, the group supporting legalization, thinks that people should have access to the plant. The petition calls for the legalization of the use of marijuana for both medicinal purposes and personal uses. For personal recreational use, they think it should be is amounts less than one ounce and that only persons aged 21 and above should have access to marijuana.Marijuana for personal use will then be taxed at a flat tax of 15 percent.Marijuana for medical use will only be sold with a doctors recommendation and at a wholesale price. The whole decimalization of it will help Ohioans, said ResponisbleOhio supporter Dominic Ali. It will save taxpayers 00 million a year, so this is an important issue that affects man Ohioans. Some individuals and groups, like PreventionFIRST!, are vehemently opposed to the legalization, citing reasons like that they fear for the communities that will grow and sell marijuana.ResponsibleOhio needs 1,000 signatures to submit language to the Ohio Attorney General. If that's approved, supporters must get more than 300,000 signatures to get the question on the November 3rd ballot.Follow Angela Ingram on Twitter @newslaw1, and LIKE her on Facebook.Follow us on Twitter @Local12 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates!
