Ending this EP's correlative video series are these two batshit-crazy pieces. Looking back, despite the unbelievable difficulty of these parts, I remember how cathartic (no pun intended) it was for me to write in such an unhinged matter at the time. Many thanks to Adam and DIG for allowing me to express myself in such a way. On a related note, I'm already well into drum tracking for their second full-length and can't wait to hear everything come together! There are a myriad of complex 'drum moves' in both tunes, but I'll try to highlight as much as I can in the usual 'notes' portion below. Also of interest is the fact that I changed out my ride cymbal and utilized soft mallets in the laid-back portion of "Gates" at 8:26; Adam also employed different mixing techniques. "The Absonite Path" notes: 0:00 - I stumbled onto the basis of this lick many years ago and have used it in different ways and in different bands/projects, although this instance was the first in which it was properly recorded+filmed; the second half the intro (after the crossovers) was a new addition 1:37 - 2:01 - halftime backbeat is superimpose over mixed time signature passage, and manually 'resets' itself 2:44 - weird quintuplet fill-in 3:44 - 3-16 lick with 32nd bursts on double kick (regular 16ths @ 300 BPM, yikes) 4:12 - love Adam's wacky quintuplet passage here 4:23 - fast 16th triplet licks "Gates of Catharsis" notes: 5:05 - simple snare crescendo, what better way to kick off an epic? 5:38 - brief one-bar 5-16 superimposition on ride bell 5:53 - more Adam madness with a bar of 21-16 6:16 - difficult one-handed crash mutes 6:57 - super quick 16th triplet burst on double bass 7:31 - fast quasi-linear fill-ins 8:22 - fast linear fill-in sequence 9:04 - fill-in changes primary subdivision, also includes a 'buzz' on the ride hehe 9:30 - quintuplet fill-ins 9:31 - 10:04 - quasi-marching section contains a pedal splash ostinato 10:35 - 10:41, 10:47 - 10:53 - another pedal hat ostinato, except this is far more difficult 11:04 - brief fill-in features 4 dotted 16th notes in the space of 3 eighth notes into quarter note triplets 11:44 - tempo change lands smack dab on an 8th-note quintuplet snare crescendo 11:51 - 11:54 - 16th-note displacement 12:25 - batshit-crazy freakout fill-in 12:34 - tough but groovy ride bell sequence If you'd like to purchase an isolated drum movie for either of these tunes, please visit: http://travisorbin.bigcartel.com/product/tunes Full drum set transcriptions: http://travisorbin.com/images/DyedInGrey-TheAbsonitePath.JPG Tempo = 150 BPM http://travisorbin.com/images/DyedInGrey-GatesOfCatharsis.JPG Tempo = 140 BPM Tempo change (6:55) = 168 BPM Tempo change (8:25) = 120 BPM Tempo change (10:05) = 162 BPM Tempo change (11:44) = 140 BPM http://www.travisorbin.com
